Wild Churches

RETURNING TO NATURE AS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

How do I start a wild church?

In this age of mass extinctions and radical change, leaders of wild churches are compelled by love to invite people into intimate relationship with some of the most vulnerable victims of our destructive culture:  the land, waters, and creatures with whom we share our homes.

A movement is emerging... Seeds of new Wild Churches are being planted all the time, offering invitations to reconnect with the natural world. As kin. As sacred. As beloved co-participants in a larger story of grace and inter-being.

From isolation to interconnection... Wild Church gatherings offer opportunities for connection and contemplation, grief and praise, movement and song, solo wandering and wondering, advocacy, ecological restoration and activism on behalf of and in collaboration with the beloved others in our watersheds.

A movement to restore sacred relationship with Nature

The Wild Church Network has been a support system for new and growing wild churches and their leaders since 2016. We've outgrown our wild seedbed and are ready to open to wider ecosystems! Wild Churches are revitalizing spiritual practices and what it means to belong and the Network is dedicated to supporting and growing this way of being and learning.

The welcome is wide to include seekers and those who are playing with new ways of being human in relationship with the land and creatures as a space to grow and learn together. We need each other in this time of so much breakdown and breakthrough. Joining the Network at this threshold of growth is important as we grow into a larger mycelial connection of support to meet the growing need.

the wild call.

Church of the Wild, winner of the Living Now Book Award, reminds us that once upon a time, humans lived in an intimate relationship with nature. Whether disillusioned by the dominant church or unfulfilled by traditional expressions of faith, many of us long for a deeper spirituality. Victoria Loorz certainly did. Coping with an unraveling vocation, identity, and planet, Loorz turned to the wanderings of spiritual leaders and the sanctuary of the natural world, eventually cofounding the Wild Church Network and Seminary of the Wild.

Field Guide to Church of the Wild serves as a companion to a movement committed to restoring sacred relationship with Earth. With a wide-ranging collection of stories, rituals, and practical resources, its pages lead us toward prayer and mountain, ritual and wren, gatherings and forests.
